For the New Year

Already time is a flying and we are almost half-way through January.  Before I find myself in late Spring, I want to pause for a moment and recall a few words I wrote about my flower love some months ago.  It is personal, a little granola, but very much part of me:

My dream as a florist is to take elements from nature and arrange them in ways that tell a beautiful story to the receiver.  I want my designs to create an interest in nature, perhaps a memory of time and place, a rose that your mother grew, a scent that reminds you of the change of seasons, all of which are lost in a fast-paced, conflicted and digital world.  What I love about flowers is they are tangible, you need to open your senses to experience them as you do when you walk through a forest or valley of wildflowers.  They are predictable but oh so unpredictable. They will bloom when they feel it is time and fade into another beauty, aged and tired, reminding us of the cycle of life, as well as reminding us in the world we find ourselves in, of all of its offerings and potential.

Wishing you all a flower-filled, peaceful and healthy New Year!

Light in the Grove 2015

It was the long about way on how I came to connect with a talented artist who just so happened to be working his passion on some installations for Light in the Grove 2015, the annual fundraiser for the National Aids Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park. Thankfully, Tom Steele and I connected and combined our talents to design two large installations that Tom had envisioned for the Grove.  It was a beautiful collaboration with Tom, two other amazing florists, Paula Lam and Kimberly Chan, and myself. We turned the vision into reality and created these floral installations for the grove.  What a heartfelt night with so much love in the grove honoring loved ones affected by AIDS.

The Holiday Pop-Up at Corte Madera Town Center

I had the pleasure of spending this past Wednesday afternoon among the many retailers and vendors at the Corte Madera Town Center. I hosted my first of three holiday pop-ups offering flowers that (thankfully) stopped traffic (especially for the protea varieties, orchids and silver brunia).  It was a fun and festive afternoon with many wanting to stop, talk about how they enjoyed my unique offerings (thankful again) and shop flowers.  I loved it!  You just can't get that experience if we all stay in our digital commerce world.  So come see us again next Wednesday, December 23 from noon to five at the Corte Madera Town Center right next to Wells Fargo (pull out money, smell the flowers, buy the flowers!).
